My Disney Reminder

Very last minute we decided that we wanted to go to Disney World a few weeks ago.  Just for a few days; just to get out of the city.  I'm so lucky to have a fantastic Travel Agent as a good family friend (reach out if you want to be put in touch with her - seriously she is THE best), because she was able to get us in to do all the things and meet all the characters and generally have a really lovely time.  

We were there for three nights and decided to go to Magic Kingdom on the second day and to stay long enough to watch the fireworks.  As I wandered around the park that afternoon, I was really transported back to my childhood.  The days of glass slippers and 7 lovely Dwarfs; times when virtue was sure to win and following your heart was the only roadmap you'd ever need.   Before adulting and times when things can become more narrow, there is the expanse of imagination - it was so good to be giving the opportunity to Remind myself of those dreams - because they aren't lost, even if they have been at times locked away in a bit of a West Wing of my soul.  I have to hand it to Disney - they know what they are doing and they are excellent at it. 

At the beginning of the fireworks show, the narrator begins with:

"Each of us has a dream, a heart's desire. It calls to us, and when we are brave enough to listen and bold enough to pursue, that dream will lead us on a journey to discover who we're meant to be. All we have to do is look inside our hearts and unlock the magic within. Grab hold of your dreams and make them come true, for you are the key to unlocking your own magic. Now go. Let your dreams guide you."

That sticky evening in the swamplands of Florida, those words hit me hard.  "If we are brave enough to listen and bold enough to pursue" - that's it right there.  

So as wheels went up from the Orlando airport back to my beautiful NYC, I did have a little twinkle in my eye.  I thought about Tinkerbell and what she represents, and I vowed that I won't ever let her light go out.
